Wanderlust: Saint Basil's Cathedral

Image
{ Photo by  verygreen  } Saint Basil's Cathedral in Russia Собор Василия Блаженного That's the name in Russian. It looks like its a mouthful, isn't it? The cathedral looks like something out of a candy store, and is so dreamy that it looks unreal. I would have to stand right on the Red Square, to believe that it's real. { Click here for my wish list and  a list of my travelogues }

The Blind Men and the Elephant

Image
{ Chiang Mai, Thailand - Feb 2011 } It was six men of Indostan  To learning much inclined, Who went to see the Elephant  (Though all of them were blind), That each by observation  Might satisfy his mind. The First approached the Elephant, And happening to fall Against his broad and sturdy side, At once began to bawl: "God bless me!—but the Elephant Is very like a wall!" The Second, feeling of the tusk,  Cried:"Ho!—what have we here So very round and smooth and sharp?  To me 't is mighty clear This wonder of an Elephant  Is very like a spear!" The Third approached the animal,  And happening to take The squirming trunk within his hands,  Thus boldly up and spake: "I see," quoth he, "the Elephant  Is very like a snake!" The Fourth reached out his eager hand,  And felt about the knee. "What most this wondrous beast is like  Is mighty plain," quoth he; "

Project 366

Image
A project to take a photo a day for the next year. Sounds like an ambitious undertaking? I felt so too! But I am intrigued by the idea. To think that a year later, I would be able to look back at the 366 photos taken over the year. Wonder what kind of memories it would evoke! By the way, it is 366 photos because 2012 is a leap year.  Well, I will start documenting this journey here . If everything goes right, will take me all the way to 20.12.2012.  Let's see how far it will go.

Time is Power

{ Movie : In Time } Love this movie poster. It has a great message. A great face (of Justin Timberlake, of course!). And easily summarises the movie.  { Click here for a list of movies I've watched  and other posts on movies  }

Thinking of Proposing This Christmas? Do It in Style!

{ Sponsored Guest Post by BCP } There is something about Christmas that brings out the romantic side of many people and it is for this reason that many people chose to get engaged at this time of year. What could be more romantic than asking your loved one to marry you on a snowy Christmas morning sat by an open fire? Sadly here in the UK the chances of having a traditional Christmas scene when you open your curtains on Christmas morning is quite unlikely and it is more probable that it will rain on Christmas Day than snow. If you want the traditional Christmas scene then you are better off going somewhere abroad where you are pretty much guaranteed to get snow. This of course means that you have to go away for Christmas. If you are thinking of asking your loved one to marry you then this could be the perfect trip and an engagement to remember. New York or Lapland would both be fantastic choices for somewhere to pop the question. If you are thinking about going for it in this

Soak in the Christmas spirit

Image
{ Singapore - December 2011 }  While I do not celebrate Christmas, I love the idea that Christmas conjure up in my mind - beautiful golden balls, sparkling lights, powdery snow, crackling warm fireplace, Christmas trees, mistletoe, sharing of gifts, and of course, the big fat man with a long white beard. Well, these, I have to admit, are probably from all the American movies and TV series that I have seen, but I love it anyway. So, to all of you who celebrate Christmas, have a beautiful bright and cheerful Christmas, and to those of you who just want to soak in the Christmas spirit, take a walk along Orchard Road. With the  brightly lit up Christmas trees , with streets decked out in blue sparking lights and Christmas decorations, you can definitely feel that Christmas is just around the corner. Merry Christmas! And have a Happy New Year! { Click here for other posts on Singapore and  a list of my travelogues }

Brightly lit up Christmas trees

Image
{ Singapore - December 2011 } Singapore may be in the tropics, and the weather is hot and humid with lots of rain, but that does not stop this tiny red dot from going all out with Christmas decorations. You just need to take a walk down Orchard Road to soak in the atmosphere. There are so many beautifully decorated trees along the festive road, that I lost count after awhile. Love how each of them are so different, and yet unmistakably Christmassy! { Click here for other posts on Singapore and  a list of my travelogues }

The elephants are parading on the streets!

Image
{ Singapore - December 2011 } If you have been out in Singapore lately, you would have noticed brightly coloured elephants all around the city. They are part of the Elephant Parade's open-air exhibition dedicated to saving the Asian elephants from extinction. If you ask me, this is a brilliant concept to raise awareness, while raising funds! The elephants are uniquely painted by local and international artists, and will be auctioned off by Sotheby's in January 2012. The first  Elephant Parade  was in Rotterdam in 2007, and has since been to Antwerp, Amsterdam, Emmen, London and Bergen. There were four exhibitions this year, starting from Heerlen, Copenhagen, Milan and finally, Singapore. Part of the proceeds are in aid of the  Asian Elephant Foundation . The Asian elephants are lovely animals. They are huge, and yet gentle. I learnt this first hand when I was in  Chiang Mai, Thailand  earlier this year. Will write about my amazing experience in the  Elephant Nature Par

Imagining Pompeii as it was

Image
{ Pompeii, Italy - May 2011 } Walking around the huge and well-preserved archeological site that was once Pompeii, it was easy to imagine the city that it once was... Pompeii was an important port, and must have been a well-to-do city. The temples and the forum must have been a lively place where the Pompeiians met, traded and socialised with their family and friends. There were shops selling everyday items, such as wine and bread, with graffiti on the walls. There were brothels with erotic frescoes and public baths. The large amphitheatre must have provided entertainments to the residents. The houses and villas were large, with many rooms and even gardens with water features. Some of the houses were right in the middle of the city, while others were further away, probably some holiday villas of rich Pompeiians. The rich pompeiian red that coloured the walls and the beautiful paintings showed that the houses must have been colourful. The bright gardens and water features, would h
