Photography Brassaï

{ Singapore - November 2011 }


I loved that whole side of Paris at night - it was part of the reality of the city. I never went after extraordinary subjects. I always loved the common things, the everyday things - because I think if you really look at them, they're often the most amazing things. 

Brassaï, a photographer who took many photos of Paris at night in the 1930s, said the above. It sums up his photographs pretty well, and that is what I loved about his black and white photos. He captures Paris at night - the people, the buildings, the bridges with all the lights and fog.

It was a small exhibition, but one that showcases some of Brassaï's most famous works. It was great to see that Singapore is slowly bringing more and more art and photographs to this small island. Looking forward to more exhibitions in the future!

  Travels have probably changed for good - our last big trip was in December 2019 and last flight taken was coming back from Penang, Malaysia after the Chinese New Year celebration in February 2020.  Little did we know then that we would be in Singapore for the next 2 years (and hopefully not much longer)! Statues of naked men

{ May 2011 - Florence, Italy } I have seen more statues and painting of naked men and women during the trip to Italy, than I have ever seen, and will probably ever see. You just need to scroll through all the photos I have posted under Italy  to see some of the many that I have seen. And Florence, the birth place of Renaissance, probably has more statues and paintings of naked men and women, not to mention, of Gods, Goddesses and their children, then any other cities in Italy. David If there is one masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, it has got to be David by Michaelangelo. The 17-feet marble statue of a standing male nude, is definitely an exceptional piece of sculpture. It could probably be due to the position in Galleria dell'Academia that houses the sculpture, or just the tall white polished marble. Central Vietnam with Children

I've always wanted to visit Hoi An - old world charm, yellow dirty walls, travelling in boats and bicycles and foot. Not to mention, it is in Vietnam which has some of the best street foods. Somehow, we never managed to plan a trip there, till now, with 2 children in tow! Was a little reluctant at first - a cultural trip with an erratic almost 2.5-year-old toddler and a 4-month-old baby. In the end, after considering various other countries, we decided to go, but spend a longer time there and take it slow with lots of breaks and naps.
